BRASStitutes @ facebook

Brasstitutes - horns for hire was recently formed after being Inspired by the unique and dynamic drum & bass grooves of Afro-Brazilian act Napalma. Born from a concept by three classically trained musicians. The group mixes diverse genres of style and sound with the full and rich tonality of two trombones and tuba, Brasstitiutes - horns for hire are breathing new life into the usual supporting line-up, crossing over from the depths of classical sonority to meet the energetic fusion of styles by creating ecelctic new ideas.

Congratulations to our tuba player Mats, and to Tash who has just fulfilled her dream of marrying a Brasstitute! As of Saturday, 2nd May, they are now Mr and Mrs Kjelling. May the patter of tiny tuba Brasstitute feet follow soon. The other two Brasstitutes are still 'living the dream'!

La Scarpetta - 340ml and Napalma

For this gig, where Napalma was playing host, 340ml sent them a basic rehearsal recording of four tracks and the Brasstitutes scored in their contribution and it all came together live on stage without any group rehearsal. I was having too good a time to make notes of what and on which track but I clearly remember watching Pinto peeling away from the microphone in absolute delight as a brass line slotted perfectly into one of their classic tracks. This is what good live original music is all about and boy did the 200 or so people in attendance register their delight. courtesy Neil Comfort - The Mercury
